Our Story

Founded in 2004, Patty and Gary started producing a delicious ice cream in small batches, to keep recipes feeling and tasting “homemade.” In 2020, Bob Lake took over Island Homemade Ice Cream. Since then, additional stores, restaurants, resorts, and more small businesses have been enjoying our ice cream and dairy-free sorbets. It is Island Homemade Ice Cream’s mission to ensure the whole state (and beyond) can continue to enjoy the evolving original recipes and homemade touches that come with this frozen happiness.

Why “Island” Homemade Ice Cream…

Vermont has a secret, and it lies in the northwest corner of our wonderful state. That secret, known as “Islands” of Vermont, is where Island Homemade Ice Cream was born. These beautiful islands consist of South Hero, Grand Isle, North Hero, Alburg, Isle LaMotte and are surrounded by the picturesque Lake Champlain, the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Next time you’re in Vermont, make time to visit the Islands – they never disappoint.

This is why our Ice Cream is called Island Homemade Ice Cream – it never disappoints! And, it will always be made in Vermont, by Vermonters who strive for exceptional tasting ice cream made with quality and local ingredients.
