Our Story

Founded in 2004 by Vermonters Patty and Gary, Island Homemade Ice Cream began with a simple goal: craft exceptional ice cream in small batches while preserving true homemade quality and flavor. In 2020, Bob Lake took the helm, continuing that commitment by keeping small-batch craftsmanship at the center of everything we do. Today, our ice cream and dairy-free sorbets are enjoyed by a growing number of stores, restaurants, resorts, and small businesses across Vermont, New England, and beyond.

Every batch is still made by hand in Vermont using a locally-sourced ice cream base and featuring many locally produced ingredients. Our mission is simple: ensure that more people can experience the evolving original recipes, homemade touches, and unmistakable flavor that define Island Homemade Ice Cream.

Why “Island” Homemade Ice Cream?

Vermont has a secret, tucked away in the northwest corner of our wonderful state, the Champlain Islands.  Our name is a nod to these islands—South Hero, Grand Isle, North Hero, Alburgh, and Isle La Motte—where our company was born. Surrounded by Lake Champlain, the Green Mountains, and the Adirondacks, this region is truly unique and is one of New England’s best kept secrets. Next time you’re in Vermont, make time to visit the Islands – they never disappoint.

So this is why our Ice Cream is called Island Homemade Ice Cream – it never disappoints! And, it will always be made in Vermont, by Vermonters who strive for exceptional tasting ice cream made with quality and local ingredients.
